Due to conference week, we were on a block schedule:
Monday/Wednesday: 1st, 3rd, 4th and 6th Tuesday/Thursday: 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 7th Friday: All classes Monday/Tuesday: Students who brought their narrative drafts to class were able to partner with a classmate and give each other feedback as they went through the writing checklist. Wednesday/Thursday: Students continued to work on their narratives. Some were able to conference with either me or Ms. Smith. Friday: Reading Day Preview for Next Week Monday/Tuesday: We will be in the lab typing narratives. Wednesday/Thursday: 1 Minute Presentations for narratives Friday: Reading Day Due to conference week, we were on a block schedule. Fifth period met Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
On Tuesday and Thursday, students gave 3 minute presentations on their personified narrative performance task. We should be finished with all presentations by Tuesday. Friday was our Reading Day. Mini-lesson: Dialogue Work session: Work on narrative Students submitted their narratives at the end of class. Tuesday: Reflection Students completed a reflection of their progress over the first nine weeks and set goals for the second nine weeks. After completing the reflection, they worked on the first vocabulary practice for the second nine weeks. Wednesday: Writing Workshop (4th period only) Students were divided among the 8th grade ELA teachers and coach according to their writing needs: Group 1: Ideas Group 2: Structure Group 3: Getting Started Groups 1 and 2 analyzed writing samples focusing on either ideas or structure. Group 3 received help getting started with their writing. The remaining classes analyzed an INCOMPLETE and an EMERGING student writing sample as a class. They then paired up with a peer to read and analyze a PROFICIENT student writing sample using writing checklist. Thursday: Early Release Day On this day, students prepared for Friday's reading by be either visiting the Media Center to return/checkout novels or selecting a novel from the class library. They also had time to finish the vocabulary practice assigned on Tuesday. Friday: Reading Day ************************************************************************************************ Next Week: Early Release ALL Next Week (Block Schedule) Monday/Tuesday: Students will pair up with a partner and review their narratives using the checklist. Wednesday/Thursday: FINISH writing narrative draft and conference with the teacher Friday: Reading Day Personified Narrative Presentations begin MONDAY, October 16th. Students will be called at random so everyone needs to be ready to present. NO EXCEPTIONS.
